What is vitamin C-1000mg used for?

Ascorbic acid or vitamin C as is the main ingredient in Acorbic C-1000 is used in the prevention and treatment of low levels of vitamin C in individuals who are not able to get enough vitamin C from their diets. The inability to get enough vitamin C in diets results in a condition known as scurvy with symptoms such as rash, joint pain, tiredness, tooth loss, and muscle weakness. Vitamin C is required for the maintenance of skin, cartilage, teeth, joints, blood vessels, and bone health. It is also a potent antioxidant, protecting body cells from oxidative damage.

How to use C-1000

The vitamin is usually taken by mouth with or without food, once or twice daily. It is best to follow instructions on the product package or use it as directed by the physician. When using extended-release capsules, do not crush them, rather, swallow them whole as crushing them would release all of the drug at once and increase the risk of side effects. It is best to swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water.

Why do I need vitamin C?

Vitamin C which is also a water-soluble vitamin is an essential dietary component as human beings cannot synthesize vitamin C in their bodies. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and protects against oxidative stress-induced cellular damage and UV-induced photodamage. Vitamin C is also a co-factor in the biosynthesis of L-carnitine which is required in the metabolism of fatty acids.

How much vitamin C can I take?

For adults, 2000mg is the upper limit and it is recommended that individuals with liver disease, gout, and kidney disease do not take more than 1000 mg of vitamin C per day. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, thus any excess is excreted in urine and not stored in large amounts in the body. High amounts of vitamin C may increase urinary oxalate and uric acid excretion.

Very high doses of vitamin C may cause headaches, insomnia, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhea. Caution should be exercised in individuals with hereditary hemochromatosis as it enhances the absorption of non-heme iron.

Is vitamin C bad for the kidney?

The recommended dietary allowance for vitamin C for adults is between 75 mg and 90 mg. Excessive vitamin C intake can cause oxalate to build up in individuals with chronic kidney disease and increase the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones.

Is vitamin C bad for your liver?

No evidence suggests the vit amin C in normal or moderately-high amounts causes liver injury or jaundice.
